What's Included in a Nantucket Vacation Rental
The question I hear most is what comes with the house. No two rentals are alike, but most Fisher homes share a common baseline. Adapted from my Fisher guide What's Included in My Nantucket Vacation Rental Home?
Commonly included
- Furniture and housewares: furnished living spaces and kitchens with essential cookware, utensils, dishes and glassware, plus typical pantry items. Bring any specialty ingredients you cannot do without.
- Linens and towels: bed linens, bath towels and often beach towels.
- Wi-Fi and entertainment: internet, TVs and cable or streaming.
- Laundry: a washer and dryer, usually with detergent.
- Climate control: central air, mini-splits or portable units, depending on the home.
- Outdoor living: decks, patios, outdoor furniture and a grill, typically gas.
- Beach gear: beach towels and chairs, sometimes coolers. Umbrellas are typically not provided.
- Parking: each listing notes whether off-street or designated parking is available.
- Starter supplies: basic toiletries, cleaning supplies and paper products. Single-use plastics are banned on Nantucket, so coffee pods are not sold on the island.
Things to check before you book
- Pools: many homes have them, they book early, and heating may cost extra.
- Pets: most homes do not allow pets, though a few do. Ask your agent. Ticks are a real concern on the island, and leash laws on beaches and conservation land are strictly enforced in summer.
- Housekeeping: homes are cleaned before arrival and after departure. Mid-stay cleanings can often be arranged for a fee.
- Bikes and boards: bicycles, kayaks and paddle boards are typically not included, but local rental shops are plentiful.
- Concierge services: most homes do not include them, but I can point you to island providers for dining reservations, activities and grocery delivery.
- Check-in and check-out: check-in is usually at 3 p.m. and check-out at 9 a.m. Sticking to these times helps cleaners and the next guests.
- Smoking: most homes are non-smoking.
My best advice: ask for the detailed amenity list when you book, so there are no surprises about fees for things like pool heating or pets.
Inclusions vary by property and lease. Please confirm details with your rental agent.
